Ubuntu Pro
You can enable an Ubuntu Pro license if you want. Enabling an Ubuntu Pro license will enable commercial support for the operating system portion of LiquidFiles, including adding the following features:
- Expanded Security Maintenance (ESM) — ESM provides 10 years of vulnerability management for critical, high and selected medium CVEs for all software packages shipped with Ubuntu.
- Live kernel updates — Minimise downtime and unplanned reboots with patches for critical and high-severity kernel vulnerabilities.
- Compliance and hardening — Reduce your operational risk with certified automation tools for hardening and compliance profiles, including CIS, DISA-STIG, FIPS 140, and Common Criteria.
Network Requirements
Please note that when enabling a Ubuntu Pro license, you will need to enable connections directly from this LiquidFiles system directly to Ubuntu. Specifically:
- https://contracts.canonical.com — Ubuntu Pro License Validations.
- https://esm.ubuntu.com — Ubuntu ESM packages.
License Type
When purchasing the Ubuntu Pro License there are a few options to select. First, the Self-support tier is sufficient for LiquidFiles. All Ubuntu Pro tiers provide the same access to repositories, security patching (ESM), Kernel Livepatch and FIPS crypto-modules. The higher tiers only add Canonical’s professional support services, which are not required for LiquidFiles.
Second, there's an option to select Pro - all repositories or Infra - only limited subset, and you'll need the Pro - all repositories to be fully covered with all the packages that LiquidFiles uses.
Enabling Ubuntu Pro
Once you've signed up for Ubuntu Pro, you can get the Ubuntu Pro Token in the Ubuntu Pro Dashboard and enter it in the field in Admin → System → Pro.
Enter your Ubuntu Pro Token and click the Enable Ubuntu Pro button. Please note that this process can take 30-40s, please be patient.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ubuntu Pro purchased directly from Canonical, or through LiquidFiles?
Ubuntu Pro is purchased directly from Canonical at ubuntu.com/pro/subscribe. LiquidFiles does not resell or provision it. LiquidFiles simply provides the interface in Admin → System → Pro where you paste your token to attach the subscription, and then the Pro repositories will be enabled on the system.
Is Ubuntu Pro included in LiquidFiles support, or is it a separate cost?
Ubuntu Pro is a separate cost item billed directly by Canonical. It is not included in a LiquidFiles license or support subscription. The two are independent.
Does enabling Ubuntu Pro affect LiquidFiles patching or upgrades?
No. Enabling Ubuntu Pro does not affect how LiquidFiles is updated — appliance updates still go through Admin → System → Updates as normal. Ubuntu Pro adds OS-level security features (ESM, live kernel patches, compliance hardening) on top without changing the LiquidFiles upgrade process.
